After tsunami in
2004 hit the west coast of Aceh, the Lambeso River Bridge was swept away by
tremendous waves. The loss made damage to the transportation routes between
region, thus set hurdles to the local economy. As an instant solution, locals
established a makeshift ferry to cross the Lambeso river.
The rough and ready
ferry, when there's no other choice.
The ferry made from
wooden board , were fastened together,
and locked as a deck structured with sized a bit bigger
from a car.On two sides of the rear of the boat attached
two outboard engines. You can feel it sway on the calm water.
Thank God, they stop operating if river water flooding
after heavy rains. I cannot imagine the risk
and the danger crossing the stream on certain condition.
